The largest town on the Firth of Clyde coast of Scotland is Ayr. It offers a comprehensive range of retail shopping, restaurants and recreational facilities. It is steeped in history and retains an active harbour and is home to one of Scotland's major racecourses, which annually holds the Scottish National, as well as being popular with golfers with over 40 world famous courses. Not forgetting Ayr is also the birthplace of the well-known poet Robert Burns whose history can be viewed in both museums and outside locations throughout the popular and sought after Alloway catchment area. The northern end of Ayr blends into Prestwick, possibly best known as the location of one of Scotland's three international airports. The recently enhanced A77/M77 road network in turn provides swift commuting to Glasgow City Centre and nearby surrounding districts.
