Corum Give Staggering £50,000 Donation

In keeping with Corum's committment to support Yorkhill Children's Foundation, a sponsorship and donation package of some £50,000 was presented at the Buttercup Ball which raises funds for Yorkhill Muscle Fund.

Yorkhill Muscle Fund started because wheelchair provision for young people with Muscular Dystrophy is severely under funded. The NHS Wheelchair Service for the West of Scotland is allocated only £100 per year per child to provide the appropriate chair and relative maintenance etc. You can imagine what they are buying for that, and just imagine how you would feel if that was what your child had to rely upon.

Specialist wheelchairs (not provided by the NHS) make life a bit better for the children and their families. The fund helps children in the early stages of the disease to improve their quality of life for as long as possible and sadly assists those who are in the last stages of this awful disease - to give them a small degree of comfort and dignity for the little time they may have left.

The fund was set up by Rosie Brawley whose son Ben suffers from the disease. It is in partnership with Yorkhill Hospital, the Scottish Muscle Network and West of Scotland Wheelchair Services and the main aim is to provide as many of these specialist wheelchairs, which cost £4000 each, to as many children as possible.
