We ask a selection of our recruits to fill in a diary of their progress and journey within Corum.
July 2005
After a careful selection process, Corum appoint Harvey Rosenthal into the company's newly formed Apprentice Program. John Kelly, Corum's managing partner comments "for some time now we have found a shortage of quality candidates within the industry and, for that reason, I believe an Apprentice Program within a growing business such as Corum will help to satisfy our ongoing demands. Corum Apprentices will learn estate agency from every angle and will have to prove themselves at each stage before progressing - starting of course at the foot of the ladder. Harvey showed all the characteristics of someone willing to learn in this way and we are delighted to share his journey and be a part in promoting good estate agency of the future."
Whilst studying Property Management and Valuation at Glasgow Caledonian University my application for the position of Part Time Sales Consultant within Corum was successful. I am both aprehensive and excited about the prospect of my new role. I feel grateful to have been accepted into Corum as I've watched the business grow in stature over the last 2 years and become a respected name in the industry.
July 2005
My first appointment is within the company's new Shawlands office on the South Side of Glasgow where for the next 6 to 9 months I am taking on the role of Sales Consultant.
August 2005
Even after such a short space of time, I feel I have found the career I wish to pursue. After much consideration I have left my course and decided to commit my future to estate agency.
December 2005
I can see why there is so much emphasis on great customer service at Corum. The ethos of serving less customers better really helps while learning the in's and out's of the role. This coupled with the company's 'just an estate agent' philpsophy is a winning formula. Everything I am involved with on a daily basis is around providing the best service to both buyers and sellers. Before I joined Corum, I'd never have thought that a home buyer would be treated with the same level of enthusiasm and given as much time, effort and professionalism as a home seller. It is truly about the whole service at Corum and I'm looking foward to what 2006 will bring.
January 2006
I had no idea legislation such as The Property Misdescriptions Act, Estate Agents Act and Anti Money Laundering played such an important role in being a competant and successful estate agent and have learnt about the various legislation and how it will fit into my developing role.
March 2006
Having almost completed my training and carried out the role of a Sales Consultant, I am confident I will be able to take so many aspects of what that entails onto the next stage. This sees me moving across the City to work alongside Corum's hugely successful and respected team in Bearsden.
July 2006
My move to Bearsden happened in April and its purpose is to provide me with a broader knowledge of the market and initially to 'shadow' Carol Dunbar, the office manager and senior consultant who will share her extensive experience and introduce me to the correct way to handle negotiations, what the workings of a successful office are and the day to day management of a busy branch.
September 2006
Am kept busy in Bearsden and find it incredible there are so many variations in markets only a couple of miles apart in Glasgow in terms of the buyers, sellers, prices and expectations. It is different in a number of ways from the south side and my learning curve continues. Being an office manager within Corum is like spinning plates and I have nothing but respect for the levels of committment and customer care I see - our clients are lucky to have an estate agent who genuinely cares what happens during their house sale.
November 2006
The market has started to quieten down as it does at this time of year and I can reflect on another successful year and how much I have enjoyed and learnt on this part of my journey. The new year will see me moving over to the role I joined Corum to carry out. I will be under the watchful eye of James Durward, one of Corum's founding partners and I am eager to get started.
February 2007
This is the point I feel I've been working towards as I am now shadowing James and learning the ropes. There is so much still to take in but I can honestly say I am learning at quite a pace. My experiences in Shawlands and with Carol have proved invaluable as I have an indepth knowledge of just how hard Corum works for their clients and feel I can confidently communicate this to potential clients.
June 2007
My progression as been swift and I believe I am about ready to be able to hold my own as an estate agent. I have confidence in my own ability given the investment and training provided by Corum and will be spending the next couple of months refining and enhancing my skills under the watchful eye of James and Carol.
November 2007
Due to the success of Corum's Shawlands office, there is an opportunity for me to return there to assist Ewan Blair as a trainee valuer. This is the perfect end to what has been a whirlwind 2007 and being from the South Side, I am delighted to have the opportunity to return there and contribute to their success in 2008.
