Corum Troon

Troon

Situated on the coast about 8 miles north of Ayr is the town of Troon. Dating back to the 1800’s Troon was home to the passenger terminus for the first railway in Scotland, the Troon to Kilmarnock line, which was built to transfer coal from the mines in Kilmarnock to Troon Harbour for exporting. Today it is a lively town of about 10,000 inhabitants with another 5,000 in the adjacent residential areas and home to an amazing 6 golf courses, including the Royal Troon Golf Course, host to the Open Golf Championshiip, which is typically held every 7 years.

Lying across the Firth of Clyde the town provides fantastic views to the Isle of Arran and is now established as a major ferry and fishing port and is the closest fishing port to the rest of the UK.

Not only does Troon have several other attractions including shopping and great dining, but it is also situated only 3 miles away from Glasgow Prestwick International Airport which offers flights to most destinations throughout Europe.

With such fantastic rail air and road links it is hardly surprising that this picturesque seaside town attracts many visitors each year.
